FEATURED ARTICLE:

I beat a green belt in Tae kwon do and Im a white belt in kung fu, what does this mean?
All he did was kicks but they was good and flashy and all. He had minimal punches and ground skills but he is still a green belt while Im only a white belt and was still able to beat him. What does this mean?
Note: We are both Juniors in High School.

It means you were a better fighter than him on that day.

The outcome of a fight is dependent on a number of variables. Maybe you had attributes that made you superior, like size, strength, speed, conditioning, flexibility, or something along those lines. Maybe your techniques were just better, or you were better at the skills that helped decide the fight. Maybe your quality of training is better. Maybe he just had an off day. Without observing the fight and then how you guys train on a regular basis, there’s just no way for anyone to tell, although your mention of his lack of punching and grappling skills is a good indication of the difference-making factor.

What you SHOULDN’T do is assume that Kung Fu is better than TKD. People fight, styles don’t. And frankly, since there are no standardized ranking systems, your respective belt colors don’t actually tell us anything.
